.X8A - Yamaha MODX 'all' format.
.X8L - Yamaha MODX 'library' format.
.X8U - Yamaha MODX 'user' format.

The 'all' files can contain many different types of data, but only the waveforms and performances are read.

When reading a performance, a common instrument will be created from all parts that are set to 'keyboard control', while separate instruments are created for any parts that aren't keyboard controlled. When writing, one part element is used per instrument layer, with more than one part created if there are more layers in the instrument than the maximum 8 per part.
